The vast majority of Style Serendipity users are genuine and trustworthy. However please be vigilant and operate the same common sense you would use with any transaction. Unfortunately when money is involved there is always the possibility of online fraudsters taking advantage of buyers and sellers. Please never commit to a transaction if you are unsure about any aspect.
If you are suspicious about a particular ad or seller or receive a suspicious email from a buyer, please contact email@example.com
When making a purchase or listing an item for sale on styleserendipity.com, please be aware that Style Serendipity is not responsible for any transactions you choose to engage in.
I am looking for a specific brand of dress or decorative item. Do you have it in stock?
Style Serendipity provides a free service for listing items, however as they are all uploaded by individuals we don’t have any control over the variety of items available. We are a venue only and do not have or retain any items in our possession. If you are on the hunt for something specific, try input key words into our search box to discover if your desired item is up for sale.
How do I make contact with a seller to find out more info?
Our preloved marketplace has been designed so you can make contact quickly and easily with our sellers. Simply click on the contact seller button and leave your message and contact email. The seller will receive your mail and contact you directly with further information.
Does Style Serendipity handle online transactions for items?
Style Serendipity provides a free listing service and venue for buyer and seller to connect. We do not process any transactions through our site. When making a purchase or listing an item for sale on styleserendipity.com, please be aware that Style Serendipity is not responsible for any transactions you choose to engage in.
If you are suspicious of a buyer or seller, use the same judgement you would when purchasing anything online from an anonymous source. Never give your bank account number or any other information that could be used in a malicious way. Ideally pay with cash or bank transfers. Establish a relationship with the seller and ideally arrange a meeting in a public place where the transaction can take place openly. Once the seller has contacted you, all further correspondence will take place privately between you.
What information should I get from a seller before committing to purchase?
Be sure to ask the seller lots of questions about the quality of the product. For Décor and accessories ask about condition, size, colour, uses etc. Helpful information for dresses would include colour, condition, size, measurements, and type of cleaning method it has undergone.
As wedding dress sizes often vary considerably from standard sizes and from designer to designer, the most reliable measurements would be bust, waist and hip. If it is a dress that you are hoping to alter, ideally take a picture of the dress with the measurements to a reliable dressmaker or seamstress to get their opinion if the dress can be altered successfully. If you are unsure about any aspect of the product or seller please do not commit to a transaction.
If I am unhappy with my item can I return it?
This will be up to the individual seller. Check carefully and confirm their policy on returns before committing to a sale. Style Serendipity is in no way responsible for transactions or disputes between users.
Do you do any kind of background check to verify that sellers are genuine?
The vast majority of Style Serendipity sellers are genuine and trust-worthy. However unfortunately there is no way for Style Serendipity to fully guarantee that a seller is genuine and who they say they are. Therefore it is essential that you take the same precautions online as you would anywhere. Be wary if the offer seems to good to be true.
Common warning signs include if the goods are cheaper than normal or if the seller is putting pressure on you to buy quickly. Ideally get a landline as well as a mobile number so you can make contact with the seller if there is any problem. These are agreements that you are entering into with a third party, not related in any way to Style Serendipity.
How do I list an item for sale on style serendipity?
Simple enter our preloved marketplace, click on place ad and fill in your information. You can upload up to three photos, click finish and your ad is complete!
How much does it cost to place an ad?
Style Serendipity is a completely free service. We don’t charge a listing fee or take commission on any items sold.
My photos failed to upload, what do I do now?
We would strongly recommend including photos in your ad to attract buyers. Style Serendipity has an upload limit of 150kb to avoid slowing down the site.
If you want to upload a photo that is greater than 150kb you can use an online editor like Picnik to reduce them. Simply upload your photo, make any changes you would like and then click on save and share. Here you can compress the photo to reduce the size below 150kb. Style Serendipity also has a height limit on photos so try to avoid cropping them too much. If you are still having trouble uploading photos contact us for more information.
What information should I put in my Ad?
Quality photos are the best way of attracting buyers to your listing.
- Try to show the item in context. If it is a decorative item show how you used or displayed it in your wedding. If it is a dress or accessory it is far easier for buyers to get a realistic view if there is a photo of you wearing the item.
- Give as much information as possible to buyers in the description. This will cut down on emails from sellers asking the same questions. They will be interested in colour, condition, quality, measurements, size, uses, if it has been professionally cleaned etc.
- As wedding dress sizes vary significantly from designer to designer, the most accurate way of conveying the size would be to include bust, hip and waist measurements. If you had any alterations done to a dress it is important to include these details.
- Be honest about any imperfections, marks or tears that may be on the item to avoid dissatisfied sellers after the transaction.
How does a buyer contact me about my item?
At Style Serendipity we respect your privacy and right to protect your identity. Once you have inputted your contact details into the system, any interested seller simply clicks on contact seller and their message will be sent to you via our website. You can then choose to respond to the seller and establish correspondence through your own email address.
How do I edit or remove my Ad?
When you first listed your ad with Style Serendipity you were sent a confirmation email with a listing edit key. Enter your original email address and edit key in the Edit section and you can make any changes or delete your ad. We would ask that you remove your ad once your item has been sold. We reserve the right to remove ads that contain items or content deemed inappropriate for Style Serendipity.
How much should I charge for my item?
That is completely up to you. If in doubt search the Internet to see if similar items and dresses are for sale and guide your price to the average.
How do I know the buyer is a genuine individual?
The vast majority of Style Serendipity buyers are genuine and trust-worthy. However unfortunately there is no way for Style Serendipity to fully guarantee that a buyer is genuine and who they say they are. Therefore it is essential that you take the same precautions online as you would anywhere.
Be wary of offers to pay over and above the asking price or people buying on behalf of someone else. We would recommend that you only deal with people based in Ireland. Establish a relationship with the buyer and ideally suggest a meeting in a public place where the transaction can take place openly.
Accept only cash or bank drafts as payment. As a precaution use a counterfeit pen on cash or verify the bank draft with your local bank before handing over an item or dress. Never share personal or bank details with potential buyers. Stay safe and use common sense. These are agreements that you are entering into with a third party, not related in any way to Style Serendipity.
