Ooh I have been so excited to share these images with you, and finally the wait is over! Many of you may be familiar with the talent that is home cook, blogger and photographer extraordinaire Donal Skehan. His passion for Irish food, and the work ethic that goes with it knows no bounds, and has resulted in a myriad of exciting new projects. Feast, A Dinner Journal is just one example of this, and was created by Donal to celebrate seasonal eating in Ireland. Having attended the final feast for the Summer issue a few months back, I was thrilled to be invited to join the team as resident prop stylist for the Winter Issue.
On a blustery day back in October we bundled into 12 Henrietta Street, a truly magical Georgian home in Dublin, dating from the 1720′s. With crumbling walls and antiques that told stories at every turn, it was definitely a dream setting to style for the day. Inspired by the faded decadence of the house, the final feast needed very little trimmings to bring it to life. A simple runner of autumnal leaves created from the maple tree in my mums garden brought the outside in, which I dotted with tall candle sticks and bramley apples. Linen napkins, gold etched glasses and ivory edged cutlery were a little nod to years gone by without taking from the star of the show, the sumptuous meal itself! With the flickering candlelight reflected in the amazing gold mirrors, a table of fine fare and good company, and a few cosy blankets for extra comfort, it’s a miracle we left the building at all!
It was such a pleasure to be part of the team for the day and find the perfect props for each shot. I finally picked up a copy in print today in Easons (this is the first issue available in print and digital format!) and it is treat for the senses. With produce from every corner of Ireland including bread and sweet treats from Cork, foraged mushrooms from the Wicklow woods, Beef from the Inishowen peninsula to oysters from the seas of Co. Down, it is heavenly reading for a foodie. If you fancy getting your hands on a copy FEAST: A Dinner Journal app (or maybe need that perfect stocking filler for someone) it’s available on iTunes and on Google Play for Android Devices to download, or you can pick up a copy in Easons stores.
