Food was always such a huge part of our house growing up as my Dad worked in the food industry and loved nothing more than experimenting with cooking and making delicious creations in his down time. He imparted his love of food to my sisters and I and even though he passed away some time back, every family occasion, holiday and get together usually (who am I kidding, always!) revolves around enjoying the local cuisine. It’s so wonderful now to see how Ireland has evolved as a food destination and how we are making the most of our natural resources so I was giddy with excitement when Donal Skehan published a dinner journal FEAST celebrating the very best that Ireland has to offer. It combines mouth watering food, amazing photography and beautiful styling in an Irish context so you can see why I might be a little bit excited about it all!
Donal is an amazingly talented young chef who is as lovely off camera as on, and is at the fore front of the food revolution which has been happening here over the last few decades. You may recognise him from his tv series Kitchen Hero or his wonderful cook books. For FEAST he gathered some of the most influential names in Irish food to create a seasonal journal which culminates in a final beautifully prepared meal. Talented folk who helped to make it a reality included Ross Golden Bannon, Sofie Larsson, Sharon Hearne Smith, and Jane Matthews. It is a feast for the eyes and the senses (all captured on camera by Donal himself) and well worth enjoying online or ordering your own print copy here. I was lucky enough to get to enjoy the final FEAST for the upcoming issue so I can’t wait to see how that turns out. In the mean time you can sign up for the mailing list if you’d like to stay in the loop on when the next issues will be out.
