The Language of Love
A Real Irish Wedding by Inspired by Love

People always say you will meet the love of your life when you least expect it. For Victoria and Chris it was a special exemption from Irish class that led to their wonderful journey together! You might remember these love birds from their engagement shoot that I had the pleasure of styling last year, and I’m so excited to share the images of their wedding day, beautifully captured by Sona of Inspired by Love!

First meeting 15 years before, Victoria lets us in on how it all started.

“We went to secondary school together and because both of us had moved around as children (chris from England and my parents kept bouncing back and forth between the States and Limerick) we were exempt from Irish. However in our small school being the only 2 people exempt from Irish meant we had to sit together. At first we just had friends in common. Then we became friends. By leaving cert I would have told you Chris was one of my best friends in the world.”

Sounds like a happy ending wasn’t too far away at that point…but in the style of a great love story, something stepped in to complicate matters!

“Leaving cert year my parents decided it was time to move again so I went through the year knowing I wouldn’t sit the exams or finish the year at that school. The morning of my 17th birthday I realized I was in love with Chris but I knew I was moving and so I decided it was better to just stay friends.”

I know you can tell the happy ending would come about eventually, but don’t you want to hear what happened anyway?!

“When we moved Chris and I kept in touch through emails and Skype (turns out Chris also had feelings for me too!). Eventually 3 years after I moved I came back to Limerick for a summer and decided to make my move then. Unfortunately Chris had a girlfriend (something he forgot to mention) and after that embarrassment we lost touch for a while. In 2006 I decided to move back to Limerick permanently and I looked Chris up thinking it would be great to have a friend when I got back here. We were quickly talking for 4 hours every day and before I knew it we had decided to have our first date the night I flew in.”

The rest as they say is history, and four happy years later, Chris proposed in their living room. They decided to get married in Limerick where it all began, surrounded by their favourite people.

“We chose Bunratty Castle Hotel for both the ceremony and the reception. It was very important to me that my grandparents be able to come to the wedding and also be able to go to their own home that night. We started searching for venues around the Limerick/Shannon region and when we stepped foot into Bunratty Castle Hotel we both just knew.”

It was clear when I spent time with Victoria and Chris last year how much they light up in each others presence. Sona has done such a beautiful job of capturing their love and laughter!

They tried to bring as many personal details to the day as possible, so that the whole experience would be a reflection of their style and personalities.

“We just very much wanted to reflect our personalities individually and as a couple. We scoured wedding blogs and talked about what we liked and noticed a trend. We wanted something that really brought nature and earthy touches to the day.”

I was struck by how calm and organised both Victoria and Chris were when it came to the wedding planning, their secret? Get everything tied down well in advance and don’t be afraid to ask for help!

“Planning is key!! I got nearly everything lined up very early and had very little to deal with in the run up to the day. Also make sure you have someone you trust, who can keep you calm and can delegate to. Its actually impossible to do it just the two of you. My dad was such a huge help I’m not sure what I would have done without him.”

Thank you yet again Victoria and Chris for allowing me to share in a little bit of the joy that surrounds you both. I have no doubt there are many many happy years ahead.  And of course huge thanks to Sona of Inspired by Love, it is always a pleasure to share your beautiful photography!
