Looks like Love…A Real Irish Wedding
by Therese Aherne Photography

I love getting to see glowing brides lit up with happiness on their wedding day, but today’s bride is in a league all of her own. The gorgeous Edel beamed from one end of the day to the other and her grin is just infectious! I dare you not to smile looking at these gorgeous shots from Therese Aherne Photography, which are full of love, laughter and lots of lovely special touches!

It seems the world of weddings already played a big role in Edel and Joe’s life as fate stepped in at a mutual friends big day.

“Joe and I met at a wedding where I was bridesmaid and he was a guest. He definitely caught my eye that day and before I knew it, I had re-located to Cork and the rest is history!”

Joe has great taste in proposal locations, picking one of the prettiest spots in Ireland to pop the question! (and I know I’m biased when it comes to Cork locations but I promise Kinsale really is special!)

“The proposal was really special. We had just moved into our new house on New Years Eve and on the same night Joe popped the question in Kinsale, one of my favourite places (even more so now!). A few weeks later, Joe brought me to Dubai for the engagement ring. We had a really great time over there.”

What an amazing sequence of pictures, well spotted Therese! And it seems not even an escaping veil could stop Edel smiling!

“The Church was particularly moving and emotional. I was extremely proud that my Dad walked me down the aisle. I will never forget the moment walking into the Church and seeing our all close family and friends. Seeing Joe at the top of the aisle beaming down at me was a wonderful feeling.”

I know couples are always on the look out for new ways to decorate their wedding aisle, and I think those flower and book creations have to be one of the most unique ideas I’ve come across yet! Also, I was so excited to finally spot musicians I know crop up on Style Serendipity. I’ve had the pleasure of performing with the Bravura String Quartet on quite a few occasions and Edel shares the special role they played in their ceremony!

“Bravura String Quartet was very accommodating with some of the music choices that wanted in the Church. Douglas was a consummate professional and he managed to keep the entrance song “The Secret Wedding” a secret from Joe until I arrived at the Church”

The gorgeous flowers and details throughout the ceremony and receptions were thanks to Enchanted Occasions.

“The detail that Enchanted Occasions went too was phenomenal and all the little touches really reflected our personality and sense of fun. We explored ideas that we had in detail with Enchanted Occasions, who executed them beyond our wildest dreams.”

Springfort Hall in Cork proved the perfect spot for their relaxed celebration.

“The theme for our day was afternoon tea party meets vintage shabby chic. Everything was mismatched and a little quirky. We also wanted our guests to feel like they were in a hidden country retreat and really switch off and enjoy the celebrations. Springfort Hall ticked all the boxes for us. There was no request too little or big that they couldn’t accommodate for us!”

“We were looking for a venue that had an excellent reputation for locally sourced, fresh produce and Springfort Hall in Mallow exceeded all expectations in this regard.”

As well as the gorgeous food and atmosphere at Springfort Hall, there was an extra little surprise when it came to the entertainment!

“My brother organised a Singing Chef as a surprise for Joe and I, which completely got us! It was hilarious- before we knew it, the whole venue had burst into song and dancing before the dessert had even arrived!”

So for a bride and groom who looked like they enjoyed every second of their day, just as it should be, what advice would you have for folk in the midst of planning?!

“Definitely appreciate the fact that you have all the people that you love so dearly together at the same time. They are all there for you both. Joe and I took a few minutes on our own to relish this moment. It is so rare that you will have this group of people all together again– it is very special.  And enjoy the fact that you have just become Mr. and Mrs!”

Well said! Thanks so much for sharing your day with us and I hope your married life together is filled with even more smiles and laughter! And of course huge thanks to Therese Aherne for capturing their day so beautifully!
