Cover Up with Illusion Necklines…
A Demure Take for Bridal Fashion 2013

The worlds hottest designers unveiled their vision for Fall 2013 last week at New York Bridal Fashion Week. There was a serious amount of prettiness to be seen, and while many of the trends from last year (sleeves, lace and coloured wedding gowns) made a reappearance, my favourite trend to emerge for this year is the illusion neckline. From lace overlay, to sheer voile, this years bride can expect to embrace a more demure look with just the right hint of sass, and as a bonus you can dance the night away with none of the perils and pitfalls of a strapless gown!

I’ve always been mesmerised by the collections of Monique Lhuillier and this year was no different. Sheer voile panels were punctuated with intricate detailing and patterns, creating an almost fairy like interpretation of the look.

Ornamentation, classicism, and romance were key words at Vera Wang, and two very different silhouettes show the illusion neckline has impact on any style of dress. Incidentally, this was Vera Wang’s all white show in two seasons, shunning the intense colour of last year.

Short and long were given equal treatment when it came to pretty neckline details at Amsale

Sheath and mermaid were the two primary shapes at Ines di Santo this year, topped off with sequinned detailing and embellishment.

This has to be the most unique take I’ve seen on illusion necklines yet! Reem Acra wowed crowds this year with her innovative use of stretch fabrics and metallic sheens to create an alluring and exquisite collection.

Finally, Christos was altogether more simple and elegant, showing no matter what kind of bride you are, the illusion neckline can be the perfect accent detail.
