I know it’s incredibly Irish to start a wedding post talking about the weather (it’s a habit we’re born with and just can’t seem to shake!) but the unseasonal sunshine of the last week or so seems to have made the adjustment to Autumn that little bit easier! And if you needed any more convincing about how amazing Ireland is on a sunny day, allow me to introduce the beautiful wedding of Niamh and Carl, wonderfully captured by Photography by Brideen.
Sometimes that special someone crosses your path early in your life, and Carl and Niamh had the good fortune of first meeting in their teens!
“Carl and I met when I was 14 and he was 16. We were friends for four years before we started going out together and have been together since then – I am now 29 and he is 31! As we had waited so long to get engaged, I always joked to Carl that he wouldn’t be able to surprise me with a proposal! However, one random Sunday morning, after making me breakfast in bed he got down on one knee. The breakfast in bed would have been a surprise enough!”
You can never go wrong with a palette of fresh spring greens offset by classic ivory, especially against the blue and green tones of the natural landscape!
Looks like these lovely ladies embraced the fun from the start and I love how Brideen captured the little moments that fly by on the day, and mean so much when seeing the pictures afterwards. I think that shot of Carl sums up exactly how every groom is feeling as they await the arrival of their gorgeous bride to be!
Having a fun relaxing day was top of their ‘must have’ list from the very start!
“The most important thing was that everyone enjoyed our day, including us. We wanted the craic to be great and everyone to feel comfortable. For this reason, we tried to plan our day keeping this goal in mind. We also wanted a great band who would entertain the guests all evening. The band we hired, The Professionals, was really amazing and everyone absolutely loved them. Second important to this were my dress and those of the Bridesmaids.”
The things we do for an amazing shot! But I think you’ll agree traipsing through the beach in her heels was well worth it!
Niamh let’s us in on the extra personal touches they brought to the day.
“I made a Powerpoint presentation and included pictures of wedding guests along with some old family pictures. It definitely went down really well with all the guests and had everyone in stitches! Carl has a very big family and so we had quite a few children at our wedding. We organised a sweet buffet but it was very popular with everyone, not just the kids! Finally, we asked our photographer to provide a photobooth for guests with funny props and a message board as an alternative to the traditional wedding guest book. It was a great idea and a good laugh!”
They certainly look like a couple who took their own advice and made sure to enjoy every minute of the day!
“I would say to a future bride, try to do things your own way. Everyone likes to give opinions on everything but your day has to be your own and you have to be happy with your choices. Also, try to remain relaxed and calm because if you’re enjoying your wedding, your guests will, too.”
Huge congrats to you both and thanks so much for letting us peek at your beautiful day! And special thanks goes to Brideen of Photography by Brideen for allowing me to share more of your gorgeous work, to see more loveliness, be sure to check out her blog!
