I’m sure there are a lot of you out there who have dreamt of a fairytale castle wedding, and this gorgeous couple got to make those dreams a reality! Now living in Sydney, Australia, Lorraine and Daragh decided to return to their native Ireland to tie the knot in seriously romantic fashion at Cabra Castle. The ever amazing Paula O’Hara was on hand to capture every inch of their lovely day!
And if you thought their wedding was romantic, wait until you hear about the proposal!
“Daragh surprised me with a trip to Paris (by telling me the morning we were leaving!)for our 5th year anniversary. We were staying in an amazing hotel beside the Arc De Triumph. On the night he proposed he organised for a limo to take us around the sights of Paris and then on to the Celine Dion concert (since I am a huge fan). During My Heart Will Go On, he got down in one knee and asked me to marry him, or course I said YES!!! He was so sweet, he asked my parents’ permission before asking me and he even packed a new dress for me to wear on the night. When we got back to the hotel he had roses and champagne ready.”
Inseparable since meeting in DCU in 2001, their shared love of travel has taken them around the world. Planning a wedding from so far away is always a challenge, so having the help of their family and friends throughout it all, made the world of difference.
“One of the hardest things throughout the whole planning process was being so far away from home, however we were so lucky to have such huge support from our families. They were always more than happy to help with visiting the venues and suppliers etc. Also with us living so far away it meant the most important thing was having all our family and friends be there for our special day and to make sure they all had the best day possible.”
While all the little details seem important at the time, at the end of it all, the only thing that really matters is that you are surrounded by the people you love on such a special day. The reality of this was made all the more poignant for Lorraine, as very sadly her father passed away suddenly just four weeks after their wedding.
“The most special part of the day and one I will remember forever is having my Dad walk me up the aisle, because sadly he passed away very suddenly 4 weeks after the wedding. I feel so lucky that I got to spend so much time with him in the lead up to the wedding as he was driving me around everywhere getting stuff sorted. When I was heading off on my honeymoon he had told me it was the happiest 3 weeks of his life. I am so glad that I got to give him such a special time. Both our families and friends got to have such a special, happy day with him that they will never forget”
Aren’t the grounds of Cabra Castle just beautiful? I love that Paula O’Hara made full use of the expanse of fresh green and cherry blossoms! Lorraine and Daragh stayed at the castle with their whole family the night before the wedding, which helped everyone settle into the celebration.
“Ending up with someone as special as Daragh for my husband made all the hard work in the lead up to the wedding worth it. It was also so special that we stayed the night before in Cabra castle with both families and Bridal party. This meant the morning of the wedding was so relaxed and I got to spend some real quality time with my family and enjoy the whole preparations.”
The perfect resident for a regal wedding, the gorgeous Irish wolfhound, Oscar!
Would you believe the gorgeous wedding ring above was made by Lorraine for Daragh, who in turn made Lorraine’s ring, in Sydney. Such a beautiful and unique idea, just one of the special touches they brought to their day.
“We made each other’s wedding rings in Sydney which was a very special day. We had a Photo Booth for our guests, which was a big hit. My mum organised an Irish Dancing exhibition from my old dancing school and I even got up for a few steps. We also organised Fireworks for the night. The next day we planned a BBQ for all the guests that wanted to keep the celebrations going. What made that extra personal was my brother, who is a DJ brought all his gear and organised the music for us. So it turned out to be another fun night.”
Wise words to share with future couples?
Take a step back and soak in the atmosphere of the day, after all months of planning went into it so just enjoy!!! Make sure you watch everyone enjoying themselves and try not to stress so much about the little things on the lead up to the big day. There will be little bits that don’t go according to plan, but just know that no-one else will notice.
So there you have it, a gorgeous day from start to finish, from Paula O’Hara! It’s always such a pleasure to feature your work! Thanks so much also to both Lorraine and Daragh for allowing me to share your day. And particularly thanks to you Lorraine for being so open and generous to share what I’m sure are such precious images of your very special day with your Dad. Wishing you both a long and happy life together, with plenty more adventures ahead.
