It Was a Sign!
Practical but pretty decor for your big day

Wedding signs…I think we’ve all passed a bunch of balloons and a taped on “John and Mary’s wedding” sign along country roads in Ireland! There’s no doubt that they are much needed, and practical additions to a wedding day! But with a bit of thought and not too much effort, those essential signs can not only guide your guests through the whole event, but can be the cherry on top for your wedding styling!

Here’s a round up of my favourite ways to bring some pretty and practical signs into your big day!

With the weather in Ireland paper signs not only look a bit off, they can also wash away in one shower! Why not opt for something a bit more durable like wood? This is a chance for your groom to show off his DIY skills. Get your hands on some pieces of wood, a bit of paint and your half way there.  Or if you don’t need one more make and do project (lets face it less is more!) there are lots of pretty wooden wedding signs to be found online! From wedding direction signs, to marking a games area, drinks reception or even the bathroom, there are endless uses for a bit of rustic signage!

How adorable would your flower girls and page boys look wandering up the aisle with a “Here comes the Bride” sign? It’s a great way to get them involved in the day, beyond the flower holding, or ring bearing duties and it makes sure all your guests are ready for your grand entrance!

There are so many opportunities to give your guests a bit of direction throughout the day! From the drinks reception options, to the wedding menu, the guest book and seating areas, all of these part of the day could be taken to the next level with some pretty signs. If you don’t have flawless handwriting, fear not! Find a fancy frame or mirror and let it do the talking!

And finally don’t forget the photo opportunities that come with signs! You could spell out a line from your favourite song or poem, or even hold up a thank you sign, transforming it into the perfect thank you cards for your guests! I really think this is one trend which can have huge impact without much time or budget being taken up. So go get creative!

  1. Love a good sign – particularly those beautiful calligraphed (is that a word?) ones on old wood. so beautiful.

Thanks Naoise, I’m in love with them too! I’d frame that cocktail menu on my wall ( and maybe be encouraged to make a few at home too!) here’s hoping some Irish brides will embrace it!

I have a few ideas for signs but may not go with them all, can you price them individually for me please.

Flower girl sign “Here she comes, Uncle John”

Church Sign “Today two families join as one, so pick a seat not a side”

Road Sign arrow pointing to the right ” Claire & John’s Wedding”

Venue Door Sign “Claire & John’s wedding party”

    Thanks, Claire.

Hi Claire, glad you enjoyed the post! I’m not actually selling the signs, it’s just a roundup of some of my favourite ones. If you try etsy you can get a lot of the signs or follow the links to the images. Thanks, Ciara :)
