Wedding flowers. They are, in my opinion, one of the fundamental styling aspects of your day that should be maximised to the full! But with so many to choose from, and budgets to watch, it can be overwhelming to know where to start.
There’s no doubt that peonies and their romantic counterparts ranunculus, baby’s breath and hydrangeas, have been making big waves in the wedding world over the last few years. But there’s always room for a new kid in town, and it seems 2012 will be the year of the Dahlia. I know, it doesn’t have the best reputation in Ireland as a wedding flower but maybe this will help change your mind!
Whether you fall for the whimsical and fluffy dinner plate dahlias or their smaller more structural versions, the good news is they come in a variety of colours, and there is a type of dahlia in season from June to October, perfect for the Summer and Autumn wedding season. They look great as a stand alone flower in a centre piece, or on your cake, which gives you more bang for your buck, and they also fit in well with a variety of other flowers.
And most importantly, they look natural, romantic and stunning! So take a look below, could the Dahlia be the wedding flower you’ve been looking for?

What a wonderful blog post and thank you for compiling such a lovely collection of dahlia images.
I’m so fond of the pale apricot dahlia, ‘Cafe au Lait’, which you’ve featured…
Thanks everyone, so glad you liked the post! Thanks for sharing the name of the apricot dahlias rhona, cafe au lait makes them seem even more lovely!
What a beautiful collection of images and such a wonderful change of pace for floral bouquets!
yay for dahlias, I flagged it as a hot trend at the beginning of the year and they’re definitely taking over stateside, but Irish brides haven’t embraced them yet – hopefully after seeing the beautiful collection you’ve put together they’ll be more inspired…
Thanks for sharing this nice post with us. You show us a lot of nice ideas.
