Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all got to celebrate in style, and that 2012 brings great adventures your way! If the murmurings from those with a crystal ball are to be believed, then a big trend in 2012 will be coloured wedding dresses. The beauty of the coloured dress, is that it allows you to think outside the box and possibly opt for an evening wear dress, or something not originally intended as a wedding dress. Not only do you get something original it’s also often a much more affordable option.
This lovely Irish bride Irene, was clearly ahead of the pack, marrying her Israeli fiance Hai, in a stunning lavender and gold toned Anoushka G dress. It’s definitely a trend that I’d love to see more of, and Irene’s style is right up my street, she even wore the same feather head piece from Monsoon that I wore on my wedding day!
I’m especially delighted to share their lovely day, as it’s the first Cork based wedding to be featured on Style Serendipity! The fantastic Shane O’ Sullivan of SOSAC Photography captured all the colour and personality of their occasion at the Pink Elephant Restaurant in Kilbrittain, Co. Cork.
The Pink Elephant is famed around these parts for their amazing food, and with it’s bright and homely atmosphere and coastal location, makes a stunning setting for a civil wedding or reception. Irene and Hai couldn’t have been more delighted with their choice.
“We were having a civil ceremony so we chose The Pink Elephant in Kilbrittain for its location and reputation of good food and service, the view is amazing and they are licensed to have civil ceremonies there so we could have the whole day in one place.”
Long distance love played a key part in bringing Irene and Hai together, even if they had never intended for it to be the real deal!
“Hai and I studied together in Slovakia. We were both studying veterinary medicine. We began to date in the final year of university, it was never meant to last as we were both going home. It didn’t work out as we planned, it was too hard to separate just because of distance so we decided we could survive a long distance relationship. We visited each other every 4 months or so, eventually I took 6 months off from work and stayed in Israel. We came back to Ireland for Christmas and Hai proposed to me in Rosscarbery on 28th Dec 2010.”
They spent the next 5 months planning a ceremony that would be meaningful to them as a couple, and reflect their different backgrounds. Having a civil ceremony gave them the freedom to include some beautiful personal details.
“With it being a civil ceremony we were able to add music, a sand ceremony and readings, that made it very personal. The sand ceremony was special for us, hai brought sand from Israel and I had sand from the beach in kilbrittain, so it represented both of our home countries, we mixed the sand to show how it could never be separated to its original state.”
How amazing is that pink piano?! Just one of the lovely details that adds to the quirky and lighthearted decor of The Pink Elephant!
The cosmopolitan guest list also provided some inspiration for the style and mood of their big day!
“There was no real theme, just very close friends gathering for an informal dinner and dancing. There were guests from Ireland, Israel, Norway, Hungary and Sweden, it was a mixture of many different people so this created a theme in itself, it was wonderful to see people able to mix and enjoy themselves without having met before.”
I think you’ll agree Shane and Adele of SOSAC Photography captured some amazing shots and really highlight the diversity of the Irish countryside. Irene and Hai couldn’t praise them enough.
“They were amazing on the day and we have fantastic photos. They were a pleasure to share the day with.”
Thanks so much to Shane for sharing such a gorgeous wedding, I’m sure it won’t be the last Cork wedding on Style Serendipity with oodles of personality!
And thanks also Irene and Hai, wishing you all the best for your new life together in Israel, I hope 2012 brings health and happiness your way!
