In keeping with the golden theme of Wednesday, there’s a gem of an engagement shoot coming up from Lila’s Photography today. I’m always a sucker for photos of couples in wheat fields, so when I saw the images from this shoot and heard it was set in one of the most beautiful locations for a wedding, Holy Cross Abbey in Thurles, I knew it was going to be special!
Apparently the Christmas season is the most popular time of year for couples to get engaged, and Colm clearly sensed the romance in the air when he proposed over New Years two years ago!
“We met in a pub through mutual friends. The proposal took place on New Years 2009. Colm proposed at the stroke of midnight which was very romantic.”
So there’s an insider hint guys, if you’re looking for the perfect moment to pop the question over Christmas, the stroke of midnight could be your chance!
Holy Cross Abbey, in one form or another, has existed on the present site for almost 800 years so it’s certainly steeped in history and heritage. Sona of Lila’s photography made full use of the stunning surroundings, and Colm and Katie were happy to follow her lead!
I know engagement shoots still aren’t a given among Irish couples, but they really are an invaluable opportunity to have some time in front of the camera without the pressure of a structured timeline. It allows the photographer to get to know you a bit better, and helps you to be more relaxed about the photography on your wedding day.
“We let Sona do her creative work, she was very relaxed and made us very comfortable….we were extremely pleased with the work and would recommend her to any future brides and grooms.”
It’s almost impossible to pick a favourite as they’re all so gorgeous, but I love the romance in the last few images and the drama of black and white! Straight out of a scene from a film with a timeless love story! Thanks so much to Sona from Lila’s Photography for sharing such a beautiful shoot! Congratulations Colm and Katie on your recent wedding, and thanks for letting us get a glimpse of your adventure!
